Tibetan Adventures in Digital Storytelling
Join BRIDGES to Understanding and photographer Josh Schachter on our workshop in Dharamsala, India. Don't miss this opportunity to participate in a unique twelve-day digital storytelling workshop as we intimately work with and photograph the colorful residents of Dharamsala, home of the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government in exile.
Visual storytelling will be at the heart of the workshop, as each participant works in collaboration with students of the Tibetan Children’s Village to explore the rich narrative opportunities in this community. This workshop focuses on photography’s power to give voice to people who are often marginalized, and will explore not only how we use photography in our own lives, but also how we can use it as a tool to help others.
This is a fantastic opportunity to build relationships with youth in the TCV, while learning from and with them. Our creative collaboration with the students will culminate in a mini film festival, where the students share their work with the community.
Dharamsala is situated in Northern India on the lower reaches of the Himalayas. The mountains provide a spectacular backdrop to this beautiful hill town, which houses a vibrant blend of Indian and Tibetan culture. Everywhere you turn the quintessential spirit of Tibet is visible from the colorful prayer flags to the typical Tibetan villages that dot the mountainsides and the many monasteries.
