GENERAL ITINERARY FOR INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOPS

 

Morning
9:00 – 12:00

Afternoon
1:00 – 5:00

 

Evening

Day1

Arrive at site

  • Introductions of workshop participants (1.5 hs)
  • Meet the Bridges students, name game (1.5 hours)
  • Divide into groups depending on specialty (1)

 

  • Dinner together
  • Introduction to Bridges program, view sample digital stories. (2 hs)

 Day2

  • What is Digital Storytelling? (1 hr)
  • Cultural exchange in classroom part 1.  (1.5 hours)
  • Basic photography & portraiture. (1.5)
  • See Bridges students; teach portraiture, split into groups and take portraits of each other (2 hs) , Setting up your workspace & downloading photos (1 hr)
  • Free time; explore town

Day3

  • Storyboarding tutorial; discussion of themes, how to lay out story. (1 hr)
  • View portraits participants took and discuss elements of strong portraiture (1 hr)
  • Culture exchange in classroom if possible (1)
  • Meet with kids, break up into groups, view portraits with students; discuss elements of strong portraiture (1 hr)
  • Continue in small groups Story theme discussion; decide on stories, break into groups and storyboard. (1)
  • Decide what shots you need to take and start photo shoot if time (1)

 

  • Dinner together; explore town

 

Day4

  • Portraits in the field (3 hs)
  • Go on photo shoot in small groups with students. 

 

Optional: keep shooting (depending on how shoot is going)

Day5

  • Audio/music /narration tutorial (effect of music on movie)

 

* Write narration

  • go over students’ images, organize into thematic groups
  • start selecting images for story
  • Shoot the “gaps”
  • Choose music
  • go over workshop participants’ own images they’ve brought with them

 

Day 6

  • Free morning (day trips, visit local markets, etc)
  • Photoshop workflow (1 hr)
  • Photoshop with students; continued photo shoot if needed (1 hr)
  •  (1) continue selecting images for story (optional – continue to evening) – shoot the gaps.

 

Day 7

  • Day trip (different depending on workshop location); free time and optional critiques
  • Day trip (different depending on workshop location); free time and optional critiques

 

  • Informal evening of looking at each other’s photos from workshop

 

Day 8

  • Premiere Tutorial (2 hrs)
  • teach kids how to put all elements together into the story using Premiere
  • record narrations
  • finish recording narration

 

Day 9

  • continue working on projects in Premiere

 

  • Continue working on projects in Premiere

Optional: work on projects more

Day 10

  • Finish project

 

* get together with kids and have Film Festival

* last dinner with kids and goodbyes

 

Travel day

  •  
  • Travel back to airport & goodbyes
